Amsoil: Harley Davidson Customers Testimonies

Harley Fuel Economy Improvements with AMSOIL

I recently switched all the fluids in my 2003 Harley Davidson Superglide over to AMSOIL Products. At your recommendation I installed the 20W-50 V-Twin Motorcycle oil in the engine, the chain case received the 10W-40 V-Twin Motorcycle oil, and the transmission received the 75W-90 Signature Series Gear Lube ( now called the Severe Gear Lube). This HD has had modifications to the exhaust and intake systems so the gas mileage has never been great.

Before the switch over the AMSOIL I was getting about 34 miles per gallon or approximately 125 miles on a tank before going on reserve) of 93 Octane premium.  That was two up riding. Now after the switch I'm getting 40+ MPG or about 150+ miles on a tank (before going on reserve), two up riding.

Is that possible? Have you heard of any other increase like this? All factors seem to about the same in the before and after, with the exception of slight (10 degree) cooler weather. But even last fall I was not getting this sort of range. I've run two tanks through the engine now with about the same mileage on both. This is approximately a 20% increase. I love getting that extra range on a tank, not to mention the price of premium these days.

Harley Becomes Smooth Ride With AMSOIL

Terry Campbell of Lincoln, Calif., works in the industrial laundry business. He spends his free time riding his motorcycle in the Sierra Mountains.

Campbell, who has been a Honda rider since he was about 15, bought a 2003 Harley-Davidson Dyna Superglide in the past year. "The biggest thing I noticed was the big twin engines run hot," Campbell said.

He initially ran Harley SynTec 3 in his crankcase, Redline Heavy Shock in his transmission and Redline 75W-140 in his primary chain. "Well, the Redline didn't work any better than the Syn3," Campbell said. "In fact, my transmission shifted worse. The Harley Syntec ran too hot, and the Redline was sticky."

He remembered that years ago he used AMSOIL synthetic motor oils, so he connected with a local AMSOIl Dealer. He now runs AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Engine Oil in the crankcase, AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Lube in the transmission and AMSOIL 10W-40 in the primary chain, and has installed an AMSOIL SDF Motorcycle Oil Filter.

"So, I've been running AMSOIL in all three cavities," Campbell said. "It has made quite a difference. My engine is running at least 30 degrees cooler, my transmission shifts much smoother and my primary chain is quieter."

He said his engine had been running between 280 and 300 degrees Fahrenheit. And when the engine was cold, the transmission would grind when he shifted from neutral to first gear.

"Not anymore," Campbell said. "Not bad improvements from just changing oils. I first used AMSOIL in the late '70s. I should have never stopped."

He's getting increased horsepower out of the performance cams, he said. "This is really smooth. I've been a believer in synthetics since the '70s. I've seen the proof. I'm happy with the AMSOIL. The products seem like real quality products and if they'll keep my motor in my Harley running longer, I'll keep using them."

Campbell also installed AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 in his new Dodge pickup truck with a Hemi engine. According to Campbell, "You can't go wrong with AMSOIL."

How's it going? Fine I hope. I just wanted to bring you up to date. I received my AMSOIL 20W-50 Motorcycle oil today via UPS. I wasted no time, and changed my H-D 20W-50 oil to your 100% synthetic. I can already tell a definite change in how my transmission shift's smoother! My engine sound's quieter, and I notice the throttle response is better, and more responsive. Although my H-D 2002 V-Rod only has 1976 mile's, and is still very new, I feel more confident for the future life of my fine machine knowing it now has adequate protection in the engine, transmission, and final drive. The wet clutch seems to be easier to operate as well. I showed my Harley pal's your wear test's specification's, and how poor a quality H-D 20W-50 really is, and some of them are now interested in switching their motorcycles to AMSOIL as well! One of my Harley pal's is a Master Diesel Mechanic, and he quit using H-D oil year's ago. He knows there are many better quality regular petroleum oil's out there than the way over-rated H-D brand! Harley Davidson History

Harley-Davidson began in a shed, went to war, became the symbol of American individualism and ended up "KING OF THE ROAD", all in 100 years. The following is a listing of Harley-Davidson Engines from 1909 up to the present:

Flathead: 1909-1936

The Flathead was named because of the tell-tail flat vented tops that are recognizable at the top of each cylinder head. This is the famous motor that propelled the Harley-Davidson to victory after victory in the motorcycle races of the twenties.

Knucklehead: 1936-1947

On the eve of WW2, Harley-Davidson introduced an overhead-valve V-twin with knuckly looking valve covers. The new motor, affectionately named the "Knucklehead", performed well both for HD and for America in the difficult years to come.

Panhead: 1948-1965

With improvements to engine design, like hydraulic valve lifters that supplied oil through rocker arms, the Panhead hit the market in 1948. It was named for the pan-like valve covers replacing the knuckle covers.

Shovelhead: 1966-1983

By 1966 the Panhead underwent still more improvements. The most noticeable being the distinctive enclosed cylinder head in a sleek, slightly curved top. At a glance this looks unmistakably like a shovel with the pushrods tubes resembling the handle of a shovel, and the shovel itself.

Evolution: 1983-1999

In 1984 on the heels of a bold employee buyout of AMF, the motor company went public and introduced its now famous redesign of the V-twin. This radical new design utilized styled square blocks to house the valve train. This motor, revered as the Evolution engine is known amongst Harley enthusiasts as "the Blockhead".

Twin Cam 88: 1999-Present

With numerous American motorcycle manufacturers trying to surface and resurface, Harley-Davidson introduces its most revolutionary engine yet. The Twin Cam 88 gets its name from its two cams versus the single cam in all its ancestors. This motor also goes by the nickname "Fathead" for just exactly that, bigger heads. With this new engine design Harley-Davison puts one more notch in its insurance for success.
